I gave one of these a try in the pot. I had an issue calibrating it correctly though. Compared to my MiFlora sensor, which has always been pretty accurate, this moisture sensor read about 20% to 25% higher moisture level in the same pot. I did follow the calibration process documented also, with no real change to this issue.
Other than that, the Zigbee radio is rock solid and battery life is really good. Having a AA instead of coin cell makes it slightly “chunky” but this also means standard batteries can be used and rechargeable batteries work well with this device also.
As a bit of feed back, it would be nice if it had a light sensor on it so we can see how much light is reaching the actual plant, and maybe (not so needed) a soil conductivity sensor to help with indicating soil fertility.
Overall the device is not bad and I can compensate for the calibration inaccuracy as it is consistent, but it would be nice to know if the device I have maybe has an issue, or if the calibration always reads 20to 25% higher than other sensors.
A 4 star based on my unit as the inaccuracy in soil moisture reading for me prevented a full 5 stars this time round.
